I would’ve given a bit more of a heads up on this, except that I’m only finding out about this now. I stumbled upon a group of Animorph drama fans on Facebook who have apparently made their own musical for the series! The musical is at an Off-Broadway Theater as a part of the Yale Drama Coalition. Here are the show times:
February 26th 2009, 8:00 pm
February 27th 2009, 8:00 pm
February 28th 2009, 2:00 pm
February 28th 2009, 6:00 pm
Click here for more information on the show, for those that live close enough to attend. If anyone happens to get a recording of this, then let me know, and I’ll put it up on the site as well.
Oh, hey, I went to this…
It was a bit of a let down because as it turns out, although the actor who played Jake (left-most top) is a huge Animorphs fan (and a perfectly cast Jake), the people who created it were just bored and high when they came up with the concept. So they were just doing it for kicks and consequently the production leaned more towards spoofing Animorphs rather than staging it.
Unfortunately Yale has a huge concentration of irony-enthusiasts, so a bunch of the audience just went for lulz about a vague, silly middle school memory (or just to support their drama friends), but I don’t believe there were many actual fans there (also a let down).
So it was an okay production, but since I really don’t like Bruce Springsteen music, or musicals in general, and I really love Animorphs, this production was not too rewarding for actual fans. Speaking as a fan, it felt more like they were toying with, even condescending, my fond memories of the series, rather than embracing them.
