I am slightly upset at myself for taking this long to find Hirac Delest- somehow I’d read all the Animorphs before ‘going digital’. Probably had something to do with the age I was allowed to read books versus the age I was allowed to have a laptop (not until college) 😛
Anyway, I distinctly remember the Animorphs books as being my ‘gateway drug’ to READING. JRR Tolkien? Harry Potter? Yeah- never would have read them if it weren’t Animorphs. Animorphs is one of the hugest parts of my childhood I can think of, along with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
5 years long for an Animorphs fansite is pretty impressive- the books themselves didn’t last that long as I recall? Does anybody else think that so much has changed now from the 90’s that either there would be a 0% chance for the Yeerks to have a ‘quiet, secret’ invasion, or a 0% chance for the Animorphs to not get caught? It just seems like with mass-comm, YouTube, Twitter etc. if alien invasions were real, they would have to be open war affairs. Think about it- even if The Sharing’s Facebook page was ‘successful’, if it exploded with a million ‘likes’ then that would be pretty suspicious, right? And the number of times the Animorphs ‘almost’ got caught would have turned into ‘face all over the internet’ moments! There’s just no good secrets anymore…

Congratulations from another lurker! Animorphs remains one of the best series ever written. It appeals to youths but the themes and characters continue to resonate into adulthood. So much other young adult fiction is basically trash, but Animorphs was so much more. It’s like the difference between drivel like the Ice Age movies and the best of the Pixar films. I am glad to see that it is getting a re-release, and that websites such as hiracdelest.com continue to follow it.
