A real interesting piece of news has recently surfaced, thanks to Greg from The Pop Arena. It looks like the Nickelodeon Animorphs show from the ’90s is now re-airing (possibly in High Definition) on Qubo, every Saturday at 9 PM. Here is the video announcing the news:

There’s no “possibly high definition” seeing as the show wasn’t likely even shot on film, but as mentioned you cant do much worse the the degraded VHS quality we have at the moment, so anything should be an improvement.

Interesting…I guess it’s time to see if I can still get Qubo over here or not.

@Kyle:
If it wasn’t shot on film, what was it shot on?

@Dogman15: A lot of shows were shot on video back then.

Okay, maybe it was shot on film, but likely mastered on tape. 90s nick shows were low budget, they weren’t thinking ahead, so they didnt plan for HD at the time.
To remaster the show in HD would probably mean re scanning the original film elements (of those even exist) and essentially re editing the show from scratch. That would be an expensive and laborious undertaking. Shows like Friends can do it, but this show isn’t Friends. It also has a lot of effects which were probably done in standard def, so that would mean redoing all the effects. It wouldn’t be practical.
Ive seen the qubo airings since my last comment though, its definitely a huge step up from those VHS tapes we’re used to. The colors really pop now.
Their the Canadian masters though, which were different for some reason. Along with the shortened intro, they cut some lines of dialogue. In The capture part II for instance
When Tobias flies out after jake/the controller insulted him he used to say “He’s all yours Rachel”. Now he just flies out.
When Jake tries to escape the rest gang on up him they all had a one liner.
Lion Rachel “going somewhere Yeerk?”
Horse Cassie “Not this way”
Wolf Marco “your time’s up, dude.”
All that’s gone.
There may have been other things I missed too.
