Noah strikes again! Not only does Sony Pictures own animorphs.net, but they also own the following domains:
Following up from our previous post, there is no doubt at all now that Scholastic had something in the works for over a year. However, it still remains to be seen as to whether or not they intend to go ahead with their plans. Remember that the relaunch is cancelled and that these domains are not recent purchases. In fact, they are over 3 years old, and Scholastic still hasn’t released any official statement to make us think this is a sure thing.
One other important thing to note is that the registration for all these domains are a little different from animorphs.net. These movie domains were purchased months before the relaunch was announced, which again confirms the fact that they were testing the market based on the sales of those books.
Also, these domains all expire on June 19th, 2013. So it’s best to disregard the deadline date from our previous post as well, because we don’t have a year anymore. If the fans want to show support, they have to do it fast!
That’s all for now. We’ll post more info as we hear it.
It’s over. It’s over. No hope left. Or on how Chrome put it, “It’s dead, Jim.”
When did they began releasing the first relaunch book again?

!!! Amazing news! How do I show my support, seriously? I’m thrilled about this and it needs to happen!

I want a movie as much as anyone else, but they really could have tried harder in advertising the relaunch books.
Comment by Jordan — December 15, 2012 @ 9:13 pm
@Tobias, you need to buy tons of the relaunch books! (lol) since it obviously didn’t sell well, causing the stopped of the relaunch. So sad though.
Comment by Lorraine — December 16, 2012 @ 11:20 pm
@Lorraine – Lol I bought one each, if only I was made out of money!
Comment by Tobias — December 19, 2012 @ 9:23 am
Well I have thought of starting a petition on facebook but I’m not sure how many signatures we would need. I’m a bit late in the game. I figured it was over once they canceled the relaunch.

@Hirac Delest:
Animorphs fans couldn’t buy enough relaunch books. It’s just not possible. The relaunch books are cool collectables, but they’re just that, because they’re not new stories. They’re books that’ve been sitting on our shelves for years. As much as we love them, it’s hard to drum up new interest that way. It’s like trying to sell a new edition of the Wizard of Oz (of which there are many editions) and declaring the failure to be evident of lack of interest.
So, here’s my solution. Let’s make a documentary. It seems obvious to me that there’s a huge fanbase. (A simple google image search for ‘Andalite’ or ‘Hork-Bajir’ reveals the amazing quantity and variety of fan art). Since Scholastic likely isn’t going to do the research to see if there’s interest, it’s up to the fans to show them.
So, we should make a YouTube documentary, chronicling the continuing Animorphs fanbase. It would cover the web sites on the internet, fan art, etc. We’d have to do interviews with fans, especially with that guy from Scholastic, showing not only that people care about the series, but that it’s a potentially powerful franchise capable of drawing new viewers.
It seems like the perfect project for the Hirac Delest community. What do you guys think?

It would be so easy to make, too, the documentary I mentioned above.
On Hirac Delest, you could set up a section for fans to post videos of themselves talking about why they love Animorphs, showing their fan art and fan fiction, etc. That way everyone can participate in the documentary.
They’d also be able to submit links to their fan works, to be included in the documentary.
I could write / edit it, or someone on the Hirac Delest staff could if they want to, or some sort of collaboration. Doesn’t matter. It’s a video that will make itself, I’ll wager, because it’s just providing a way for the fans to show their support, as they already want to.

I would gladly shoot a video of myself talking about how much I love Animorphs. Issam! You must organise this!
Comment by Ketran — December 29, 2012 @ 12:20 pm
@Ketran: Awesome. Should you feel inclined to make the video, feel free to send it to me! I’ll start accumulating materials for the documentary that anyone wants to send me.
If you’ve made any fan art of any sort, or just have a cool collection, that would be a cool thing to show off. Also just talking about why and/or how much you like Animorphs would be great too.

@Xaq: If you will be making the documentary, you might also want to include something in it about Project AM, Adam Hawker, and all the other unfinished fanfilms. That would really show the cinematic potential of Animorphs.

Has this suggestion been posted on RAF or the Animorphs Fan Forum yet?
I think it’s a really good idea, but if enough fan involvement was to happen, it would probably need attention on one of those sites.

@Noah: Sounds good! I was not aware of those unfinished fan films. I will check them out. Sounds great for the documentary.
@Aguella: Good idea! I’ll look into it. Is Issam going to organize it here? I don’t know if I should direct people to Hirac Delest or just to send stuff to me?

Hi guys, sorry for the late response. I’ve been out of the country, so I’m just reading all this now.
First off: Great idea Xaq! K.A and Michael did something similar to let Scholastic know of the kind of fan support there is for Animorphs, and they did this by requesting videos from fans. You can probably re-use that footage, but I have no idea if the original fan submissions are still on Youtube, so you may have to search them out. Here are the original blog posts I’m referring to:
http://www.hiracdelest.com/blog/?p=589
http://www.hiracdelest.com/blog/?p=658
As for the co-ordination of this project: I’m sorry to say that I can’t help with that. I currently have my hands full with my career/life (among other projects), so I just don’t have the time. However, I will make a blog post about this to help spread word once you have set up a base of operations. Let me know where people can go to submit videos (Youtube, Email, etc) and what kind of content they need to film/make to get the footage you need. I would recommend creating a new Youtube channel and email address dedicated entirely for the project first, before asking everyone to submit their things to you. Email me the details once you have them, and we’ll go from there. 🙂

Hey, thanks Issam!
I wasn’t aware K.A. and Michael already did something similar. But, she says it worked well that time — hopefully it’ll work well again? I’ll try to make the argument that the series should be continued/expanded upon rather than just re-released.
Anyway, I made a new gmail account and a new YouTube as well, like you suggested. It’s Qaximorp209@gmail.com. They can email me stuff– any kind of content.
As for what people should put in their videos. Besides the obvious (talking about how much and why they like Animorphs), it would be nice to have some people talking about their favorite parts of the story, things they’re curious about, parts they’d like to see more fully explored or expanded. For example, the series ending — a new mysterious villain appears, whose origin and motives are unknown. Are you guys as curious as I am to find out what that guy is all about? If so, talk about that in the videos.
Another thing that stands out to me is that Animorphs has some really iconic images and characters. Maybe people can talk about how unique and cool the Andalites are, for example, or about any of the other alien races.
Beyond that, anything that people want to talk about — things I haven’t thought of, things that stand out to them, etc, is good.
Plus, sending me any fan art/fiction/films would also help.
Anyway, thanks again 😀

You’re going about it a bit the wrong way. What you need is fans talking about how big of an impact the series made in their lives and how much interest there is to this day, not just storyline stuff. Need to show them there’s a market still. The cinamon bunzuh blogs recent success is a great example

I love this idea, and when I checked out those domains, my heart skipped a beat. The fact that Sony is still PAYING to keep these domains says something.
As for a feature film, I’ve long thought that this series has the potential to be a blockbuster. It’s got everything a good sci-fi movie needs: well-designed aliens (though imo they’d have to do the CGI for the Andalites just like the covers of the Andalite chronicles – think of things like Narnia, the centaurs are AMAZING), solid characters with many layers, conflict, drama, heart, humor (always good, so long as they don’t turn it into Michael Bay-esque ‘humor’), and intense plotlines. Plus the whole morphing thing is amazing if they do it right.
I think, given detail and HQ CGI, as well as solid casting, Animorphs could easily be a series of blockbuster movies that would ignite a massive interest in the books. IF THEY DO IT RIGHT. It’s got a major following of readers whose lives were changed/enhanced by these stories, so they should respect our love and care of Animorphs!
*steps off soap box*
