Sony Pictures acquires TV rights to ‘GONE’!

While the Animorphs movie may be on hold indefinitely, there is some good news for fans of the Gone series by Michael Grant (co-author/co-creator of Animorphs). Confirmed via Twitter by Michael Grant himself, Sony Pictures has agreed to acquire the TV rights to the Gone series:

As Michael states above, please remember that this does not confirm an actual Gone series on television at the moment, but it does significantly increase the chances of one. Fans of the series can follow Michael Grant on his Facebook and Twitter for further info and future announcements.

K.A. Applegate’s Autograph Schedule!

Michael Grant has released a video on his Facebook, informing the fans that K.A. Applegate will be signing autographs for the new relaunch Animorphs books at the L.A. Times Festival of Books! Here is the video:

So for those that missed it:

April 30th, 2011
L.A. Times Festival of Books

12:00PM to 1:00PM
Scholastic Booth

1:30PM to 2:30PM
School Supplies Booth

A full program schedule should be up at the official website, so be on the look out for that at events.latimes.com.

On top of this, Michael Grant is also hosting a video FAQ at his Youtube Channel (Watch the Introduction Video here). This is mostly being done for the release of his latest book Plague, the newest book in his GONE series, but I doubt that he’d turn down questions for Animorphs, Everworld, or any of his other series as well. This video FAQ is going to last until April 6th, so make sure you get those questions in while you can!

That’s all for now!

Edinburgh Interview: K.A. Applegate & Michael Grant to reunite as a writing team once again.

A recent Michael Grant interview from the Edinburgh Book Festival reveals that there are two new projects in the works. One is ARG, and the other is a (currently unnamed) shared project that is supposed to reunite Michael Grant and K.A. Applegate as a writing team.

For those that are unaware, both Michael Grant and K.A. Applegate are married, and both of them were the co-authors and co-creators for Animorphs, Everworld, Remnants, and several other series. After Remnants, they both decided to write different kinds of books. K.A focused on younger readers with Roscoe Riley Rules, while Michael focused on GONE. So it’s important to note that this new upcoming project will be the first book to reunite the husband and wife duo since Remnants (last published in 2003).

No details yet as to what the project is about or what it will be called, but you know we’re excited! And we’ll be sure to keep you updated on the specifics as we get them ourselves. In the mean time though, here is a quote from Michael on the subject:

“We’ve decided that there’s a lot more peace in our house when we work on separate projects, and we worked together mostly up until we had the children. Before we had kids 13 years ago, and we continued to work together after that, but you know with their tendency to grow, and start talking and things, it becomes a bigger pain in the butt as it were. So it becomes more and more difficult to keep up, and at that point we didn’t have the time for sitting around and argue. It took up a lot of time, but it looks like there’s a project we’ll do together, a single kind of book.”

Also, there are parts in the interview where Michael Grant gives a little more insight into the Animorphs ending vs the GONE ending. Here’s a short quote:

“When we ended Animorphs, the series I wrote with my wife, we caught all kinds of hell from readers because we left an ambiguous ending. We did that for a reason; we went dark at the end and we’d had like this 60 book series, a war story the entire time, so we thought at the end we want to show consequences and we want to show what’s happened to these kids. So we killed off a major character. We had a kind of mix, you know? Some die, some recover easily, some profit from it, some don’t, but I think everybody was more or less OK with that. What they weren’t OK with was that we didn’t put a big giant period at the end of it.

When I wrap this [GONE] series, there will be a big giant period at the end. Everybody will know what happened, it won’t be like Lost where you have to strain to figure it out. As I go along I make sure I know what I’m doing, and it all will make some kind of sense.” He pauses. “Some kind of sense.”

Aside from that, the only other new detail left to note about is for the 5th GONE book. It has now been renamed from ‘Darkness’ to ‘Fear’ (due to cover space). With a total of 6 books in the series, the following upcoming titles are as follows: #4 Plague, #5 Fear, and #6 Light.

You can read the entire interview at: Bookwitch’s Blog.

Upcoming May Releases & Tour Date

This isn’t technically Animorphs news, but it is related to the people who were involved with the series. Most of you fans already know this, but if you don’t, then here’s a quick rundown of what you can look forward to this May.

The first one is obviously:

LIES (Gone #3)
by Michael Grant

Release Date: May 4th, 2010.

It is the highly anticipated 3rd book (out of the planned 6) in the GONE series by Michael Grant (co-author/co-creator of Animorphs). As part of the release of this book, Michael Grant has also once again announced a tour date to promote his series. According to his latest Twitter update, his first meet & greet is at:

Tuesday May 04, 2010
6:00 PM
Orange Town & Country
791 South Main Street Suite 100
Orange, CA 92868
714-558-0028.

The second book that might be of interest to fans is:

MONSTER SLAYERS
by Lukas Ritter (aka, Jeff Sampson.)

Release Date: May 11th, 2010.

‘Lukas Ritter’ is actually just a pen name for Jeff Sampson. If that name doesn’t sound familiar to you, then simply open up your copy of Animorphs #22, and you’ll see that the book is dedicated to him!

Jeff Sampson is the Animorphs fan who is mostly known as the owner of Morphz.com, a popular Animorphs fan site that ran until the series ended. He was in direct contact with K.A for several years, and provided fans with many exclusive sneak peaks at upcoming books, and various news and trivia regarding the series. He even helped write the Anibase for Scholastic, acted as The Informer, and then later went on to writing a bit of K.A’s following series Remnants as well!

He’s now a published author, and Monster Slayers is his very first hardcover release. I enjoyed his Dragonlance series quite a bit in the past, which is why I’m promoting his new book here. For D&D and fantasy fans especially, I think Monster Slayers will be worth looking out for this May.

That really about covers it for now. I’m currently going through many of your submissions and trying to find the time to get to them as best as I can. So don’t worry, I’ll still keep you guys updated, depending on my schedule.

Until next time!
