Amazon Kindle removes Animorphs #8

Thanks to Robert for letting us know, Amazon has now removed Animorphs #8 from its Kindle Store, which is currently the only way to legally purchase this book after the late cancellation of the paperback edition. We’re not sure if Scholastic is the one recalling these ebook editions back, but in case it is, our suggestion is to grab the ebook from other stores while you still can.

The Animorphs #8 Relaunch eBook is still available to purchase in ePub format at Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and Google Play. If there are any other legal sources to buy this book, please post in the comments below to let the fans know.

Update: Thanks to KFY for letting us know, Amazon has now brought the title back on the Kindle. (November 28, 2012)

Animorphs Cancellation: Officially Confirmed

Dan Letchworth from Scholastic returns again, this time confirming the conclusions we had drawn up in our previous post:

“Hi again, just to put doubts to rest about what we’ve all already deduced–my editor at Scholastic just confirmed with me this morning that Animorphs #8 was cancelled at a very late stage, with no plans for any further rereleases.

Hellfire and damnation!”

-Dan

Sad to say, this also removes the chances of an Animorphs 2.0 or a movie adaptation any time in the near future. We’d like to thank Dan once again, for keeping us and the fans up-to-date on the official progress of the series.

As a side note: If you were holding out on buying any of the new reprints in paperback, then now might be the best time to get them. They are unlikely to ever get a second printing, making these now ‘limited time editions’ even harder to find than the ones from the original Classic run.

That’s everything for now. As always, we’ll keep you informed should there be any further official announcement to the continuation of the series, and you can find us on Facebook and Twitter to keep up with those latest Animorphs-related updates. Until next time!

Animorphs #8 (Relaunch Edition) Released!

The latest (and possibly last) relaunch book is out this month, in paperback and ebook. Please view our previous post to know the current status of any future Animorphs Relaunch releases. If there are any further updates or official confirmations, we will be sure to update you here on Hirac Delest.

Animorphs #8: The Alien (Lenticular Edition)

Ax is an Andalite, an alien, stranded on a strange planet he’s sworn to defend, even though it’s not his own. Since the Animorphs rescued him, he’s fought at their side, and in that time they’ve come to consider Ax a friend.

But deep inside, Ax knows he isn’t their friend. He can’t ever be. Andalites must always hold themselves apart, even from their allies. As the Animorphs’ past actions start resulting in deaths of innocent people, however, Ax’s loyalty is called into question. Now he must decide whether to reveal the reason for his estrangement — the shameful secret of his people.

Relaunch Canceled?

This is unconfirmed, but there is a very strong possibility that there will not be any Animorphs Relaunch releases in the near future. With the release of #8 in little over a week, there has been no official renewal of any further releases for the rest of the year, or the next.

Amazon and several retailers list #8 as the only upcoming book, with nothing planned ahead. Scholastic has been quiet on the subject, and has not publicly released the rights or covers for any future books, which are usually available months before even being listed. The only response I did receive was from a customer service representative saying:

“I researched our system and it shows that we do not have information about other Animorphs books being released. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.”

As I mentioned at the start of the relaunch, Scholastic has been using these reprints as way to gauge the interest in the series to start a potential Animorphs 2.0. So for the fans who were looking forward to that, a cancellation or hiatus of the Relaunch series is obviously not very promising.

So the question comes: Where do we go from here? What can fans do to show their continued support? The first is, obviously, to buy the books! ($$$)

Scholastic will not financially support something that is not good for business! If you have been skipping on these releases to only buy the books that are missing in your collection, then you may not get the chance to do that anymore, as the releases of those future books depends highly upon the sales figures of the ones that are currently out now. Buying the books is the most direct way of letting Scholastic know that you are interested in more!

If you have already bought the books, then the next step is to let Scholastic know we are still interested. Customer Care, Twitter, and Facebook are all a good place to start. Email campaigns wouldn’t be a bad idea either, if someone was willing to co-ordinate it. (Skip petitions though — they are a waste of time.) If anyone knows of any direct channels or representatives to send all this to, then please let me know and I’ll post it up on this blog to help spread the word.

The ball is in your court, fans.

Animorphs #4: The Message Officially Released!

It all started with the dreams. But Cassie didn’t pay much attention to them. She and her friends have been having nightmares ever since they acquired the power to morph. But when Cassie discovers that Tobias has been having dreams too — the exact same dreams — about the ocean, and a voice that’s calling to them for help, she decides it’s time to start listening. Now she and the others have to figure out if the dreams are a message, or a trap.

Animorphs #3 Relaunch Edits, and Classic updates too!

The relaunch edit list for Animorphs #3 is now online! I have also updated the edit list for the first two books as well, with 2 KASUs fixes in Animorphs #1, and an error fix in Animorphs #2.

Along with this, I have also gone ahead and added KASU lists in the Animorphs #1-3 Classic books too! This will hopefully be an interesting comparison between the two types of editions, and the kind of editing that went into the reprints.

Also, a big credit to Anifan12 who gave me the list of KASUs for the Classic books! The list was originally hosted on Geocities, so he handed it off to me for the archive when Yahoo was shutting those pages down. I’ll now be making sure to add these Classic KASU lists along with release of every reprint edit list that I come out with.

That’s all for now!

Animorphs #2 Relaunch Edits & Updates Posted!

The relaunch edits for Animorphs #2: The Visitor are now posted in our Missions section. I had a bit more fun with this one, and was able to find about 25 edits in total.

Along with this, Animorphs #1 has also been re-organized and updated with 2 new edits, thanks to yunyun. If anyone has any extra edits that I have not already posted for Animorphs #1 and 2, then please contact me.

(The edit list for Animorphs #3 is also currently being compiled, but is on hold until I can get a bit more free time to work on it.)

That’s all for now!

Animorphs #5: New Model Cover Update!

Scholastic has updated the Official Website and given us a look at the new Animorphs #5 cover with the new model we previously posted about:

Our relaunch page has been updated to include both versions of the covers and models, and the change has been reflected in our pre-order page as well.

Animorphs #3: The Encounter OFFICIALLY Released! Also, Scholastic series discussion panel at ALA 2011!

Animorphs #3 is now officially relaunched today! The book has already been released early at a few select locations, but it should be at all retailers now, including in ebook form. Book summary:

Animorphs #3: The Encounter (Lenticular Edition)

When Tobias and his friends were given the power to morph, they were also given an important warning: Never stay in a morph for more than two hours. But Tobias broke the time limit, and now he’s trapped in the body of a hawk — forever. When he discovers an important Yeerk secret, Tobias knows he has to do everything in his power to destroy it. But to do so, he’ll have to contend with a part of himself that’s wrestling for control. A part that isn’t human.

In addition to this, there’s also some interesting relaunch info by Renata from Why, a Blog!, who attended David Levithan’s panel at the annual American Library Association (ALA) conference this year. Here’s a brief quote:

Anyway, so he starts up his presentation and the first slide is covers of the Babysitters Club and Animorphs relaunch titles, though he said that he didn’t have anything to do with Animorphs (although he did work at Scholastic when Animorphs was being published). He talked about the late 80s and early 90s as the “heyday” of series fiction, when books would come out once a month or twice a month. He cited BSC, Animorphs, and Goosebumps as Scholastic’s “Big Three,” which was interesting to me because I never thought Animorphs were as popular as BSC or Goosebumps? As a kid, I definitely knew more people who read the other two series than Animorphs. But maybe that was just my school. Also, he described all three series as being “episodic” fiction where it didn’t necessarily matter if you read them in order, or read all of them. To some extent that’s true of Animorphs (there are definitely books you could skip, for example) but I don’t think it’s true in the same way it is for BSC or Goosebumps.

Oh, and he talked about revamping the series-es (I think the plural of series is just series but whatev) and making them “time neutral.” The example he gave was if a character was listening to a Walkman, they didn’t change it to “iPod,” since you’d just have to change that again in 10 years. Instead they changed it to “music.” He said it wasn’t that hard to do, which I thought was a little surprising.

I suggest everyone check out the entire post, as it’s an interesting read. She covered the event by posting at both Why, A Blog! and the Animorphs LiveJournal Community.

Lastly, I have also updated the missions archive. Animorphs #1 now has a list of all the relaunch edits that I could find in the re-read (Please let me know of any edits I may have missed), and Animorphs #3 now has the back cover added (via amazon), and a new higher-res front cover.

Oh, and I renewed Hirac Delest‘s hosting/domain for another year (We’re now 4 years old!). Thanks to everyone who has supported us through the years! Until next time!
