ANIMORPHS #47
THE RESISTANCE

STORY | BOOKS | CHARACTERS

SUMMARY

The Animorphs and Ax have to make the most important decision they've ever had to make: Do they continue to fight the Yeerks in secret, or is it time to let everyone know there is a resistance? That the Animorphs exist. And that Earth does stand a small chance against the invasion.

Jake knows that either choice is a major one. Not one that some kid should be responsible for. But he's getting tired of the pressure. So, even though he realizes that other Animorphs need him to be strong, he doesn't feel that way. In fact, he feels just the opposite. And Jake knows if he starts to lose it the Animorphs are done...

TRIVIA

  • ANIBASE: Animorphs ended up a war story, and what better way to show this than to give a parallel view of the hardships of a real war? This book was mostly influenced, we're told, by Michael Mates, Katherine Applegate's husband and the unaccredited co-writer for all of her books. It was about the time that this book was being created that Michael started getting serious about studying the Civil War, and as a result, it ended up becoming a major part of this book's plot!

NEW PLOT ADDITIONS

ANIBASE: In the present, Jake had to reveal the secret of the Animorphs to a group of Trekkie campers in order to get them to leave their camp site and go to safety. A few of the campers, Richard Carpenter and his kids Lewis and Emily, as well as a mother/daughter duo named Meg and Chloe, decide to stay and help the Hork-Bajir fight the Yeerks, not realizing how real this battle would be.

In Isaiah Fitzhenry's time, we meet one of his soldiers, Sergeant Raines, dedicated to the end; Jacob, the leader of the freed slaves, a stoic and brave young man; gruff racist Joe Miller from town who doesn't want the Negroes fighting with the Union; his beautiful, helpful wife Sally; and Isaiah's dead best friend, Mac Carson, who convinces Isaiah that he should allow Jacob and his people to help fight.
